Hi! My name is Chris. I manage the Instructional Products and Programs Unit at Paragon Testing Enterprises. Paragon is a subsidiary of the University of British Columbia and responsible for the ongoing development and administration of two high-stakes English language proficiency tests: CELPIP and CAEL. CELPIP is recognized by the Canadian government as proof of language proficiency by those applying for permanent residency or citizenship. The CAEL test is accepted by all major Canadian universities and colleges as evidence of academic language ability. The number of test centres offering both tests in Canada, the United States, and around the world is growing rapidly.
Within Paragon, my role is to lead development and delivery of projects that will help test takers perform at their best on our tests, and to help teachers understand how they can serve students in their preparation. You can learn more about some of these projects here.
I’ve been with Paragon since 2013. Before that, I had been involved with English language teaching in a variety of roles since the late 1990s. In addition to teaching courses in EAP, Business English, test prep, ESL, EFL, and English literature, I gained extensive experience in curriculum development, and held administrative and managerial positions in several institutions. You can learn more about my ELT experience in Canada and Japan here.
I’m passionate about creating engaging learning experiences, be they in a classroom, online, or within the pages of a textbook. I believe that successful learning is supported by a vibrant, well-connected, international community of teachers and students.
